Judge a home office glass door on three things, in this order: the light it lets through, what it does for sound, and whether it fits your opening. The Manufaktur X loft door closes off a study with a steel frame and a glass infill, so light still passes through when the door is shut. For a quiet, bright home office, the glass takes care of the light; on sound, the configurator lists no rated sound-insulation class, and we state no sound value for the door. It is made to measure within the configurator limits of 600 to 1,400 mm in width and 1,800 to 3,000 mm in height.
Choosing the glass for a study door
The configurator offers five glass types for the office door: clear, frosted, smoked, dark smoked and textured glass. In the Manufaktur X configurator, each of the other four costs more than clear glass.
Whichever type you pick, the pane is safety glass: you choose between toughened safety glass (ESG) and laminated safety glass (VSG), and VSG costs the same as ESG in the Manufaktur X configurator. For the loft door, Manufaktur X recommends ESG as the standard for living spaces and VSG for places such as rooms used by the public.
Toughened glass is created with a thermal treatment to make it up to five times stronger than ordinary glass.

A door that stays shut while you work
The optional magnetic lock holds the door closed with magnets in the frame and stops a draught from pushing it open; a light pull or push opens it. For requirements beyond the configurator, such as a specific sound requirement for your study, get in touch to discuss your case.
Our own configurator data for the UK (27 sessions with a recorded loft door configuration on manufakturx.co.uk, 06/06/2026 to 26/10/2026; each session's last setting counts, including the preselected setting without a magnetic lock where it was kept, not orders): 4% had the magnetic lock switched on, 96% left it off. With this few sessions these are first indications, not representative values. Across Europe (all 15 Manufaktur X country sites, 1,714 sessions) 11% had it switched on. Across Europe, 21% of the 268 sessions that ended on frosted, smoked, dark smoked or textured glass also had the magnetic lock switched on.
Fitting the door to your opening
Measure up only once the finished floor and the plastering are done. Measure the clear width of the opening at several points, take the smallest figure and deduct about 5 mm on the left and right for the fitting gap, leaving the same gap at the top.
Fix the loft door only to a wall or structure that can carry it, with enough clearance to open and close it; Manufaktur X recommends fitting by a competent person. The lead time is approx. 5-6 weeks.
